Lockdown use of Combe Park

Lockdown use of Combe Park

Scott Longstaff13 Jan 2021 - 14:04

Please be respectful of the ground during closure

Polite request regarding lockdown usage of Lansdown Cricket Club grounds.

Hi all,

We’re very lucky at Combe Park to have such a great space to enjoy, especially during lockdown. Of late, lots of members and neighbours in the community have been using the ground for safe and enjoyable exercise. The ground remains open to ensure access by RUH staff and the Air Ambulance.

However, the field is of course designed, maintained (at great cost) and used during the summer as a cricket pitch of the highest quality – and we must protect that. As such can we please ask that users respect the environment at all times and adhere to these understandable and sensible rules:

• Under no circumstances venture onto the ‘square’. This is the roped off area at the centre of the field which needs careful and expert maintenance all year round.
• Dogs are always welcome, but we’d prefer them to be on a lead to avoid tearing around the field and chasing balls which causes damage to the turf.
• It should go without saying but please ensure that ALL DOG MESS IS PICKED UP and disposed of appropriately. We discovered a few piles of it on the outfield this weekend which is utterly unacceptable.
• Kids need a run around, and our ground is a perfect space for that. However, please be sensible. Any games or activity that damages the grass should be avoided. When the ground is wet and frosty, it tears up easily. Please temper games accordingly.
• No bikes to be ridden on the grass. Again, when it’s wet the grass tears up and leaves tracks which causes problems.

Overall please just use common sense with the ground. We love that it is used by the community in the winter, however with the club currently closed, we are unable to oversee usage. We rely on your good sense to help us make sure that come the Summer, when we’ll all be desperate to socialise again, that the place looks as resplendent as it does every other summer.

Hopefully that’s not too much of a grumpy request of you all. We’re really proud to be a central part of the Newbridge and Weston community and we want to make sure that we offer the best environment for sports and socialising that we possibly can.

Many thanks
