The Lansdown Cricket Club BIG Bike Ride 2025

The Lansdown Cricket Club BIG Bike Ride 2025

Scott Longstaff22 Apr - 18:56

A Charity Ride to every Test Cricket Ground in England. Cycling 850km in Just Four Days ...

2025 marks the bicentenary of Lansdown Cricket Club, founded in 1825. It's a huge thing.

To mark that occasion and celebrate 200 years of sports and community in our amazing City of Bath, LCC have launched a campaign to raise £200k for local charities (primarily Dorothy House and RUHX, the official charity of the RUH).

It's a big ask, but we know we can do it!

There will be plenty of activities and events to follow but a really big one is this one, which everyone can get involved with.

So what's this 'big-ride' all about?

Well, LCC is a Cricket Club, and a pretty famous one at that. To help spread the word about our big birthday and be a central pivot to that fundraising campaign, in May next year we'll be cycling to every Test cricket ground in England ... in just three (and a bit) days. With a final day procession from Southampton to Bath it will total 530 miles. It's a lot of riding and so the idea is to run it as a relay, with groups taking it in turns to eat up the miles. Riders can ride all or some of the route with on average 70 to 90 miles per rider per day - or less if they'd prefer. The idea is to have full rider support and logistics alongside us. The scale of that depends on the number of riders.

You can see the route details HERE

It's a big ride and so will have to be taken seriously, but the idea is to have fun all the way ...

If you don't fancy the full ride itself, you can still get involved. You can join all or just some of the ride. The final leg between Southampton and Bath is a decent ride, but most reasonably fit folk can do it. If that doesn't float your boat, you can join for the final 20 miles or so along the Colliers Way bike path from Frome to Bath - we're hoping that many of our junior cricketers will join that bit.

We'll also need some support people to help out with logistics, feeding and support vehicles.

The whole thing is in the early prep stage at the moment - there's lots to think about and settle on.

So what to do for now?

Well, If your interested in being involved, just drop Scott Longstaff a line and we'll register your interest and if you've got pals who might also fancy it, please pass it on. We'll be meeting on the morning of the 4th and 11th May to share more detail and get feedback.

If the ride doesn't float your boat, but you reckon you could help out as a support driver or something, let me know - we'll need lots of helpers for sure.

If its not your thing, or you don't fancy it, no problem. If you know someone who might be interested, pass it on.

So that's it. Let Scott know what you think and whether you want to be involved. It promises to be brilliant thing, visiting all those great test cricket grounds, getting a photo together on the square at Lords, spreading the word about Lansdown Cricket Club and raising masses of money for causes at the heart of our community in Bath. We might even get on Points West as well ..
